Mr Imaging of Dispiaced Bucket-Handle Tear of the Meniscus

Abstract
|
|
|
A oucket-handle tear of meniscus is a yertical or oblique tear with longitudinal extension in which the inner fragment isfrequently displaced toward the intercondylar notch with resultant mechanical locking. We examed the MRI findings of 26 knees
of 26
patients with arthroscopically proven displaced bucket-handle tear of meniscus of from Aug. 1991 to June 1993 at the department of orthopaedic surgery and radiology in Wonkwang University Hospital.
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the diagnostic value of MRI for displaced bucket-handle tear of meniscus which was confirmed by arthroscopy.
@ES The results were as followings;
@EN 1. Arthroscopic examination revealed that the centraolly displaced bucket-handle tear was noted at medial menisci in 15 patients and at lateral meniscus in 11 patients.
2. Displaced fragment on both sagittal and coronal image between the PCL and the medial tibial eminence was identified in all patients (100%).
3. Double PCL sign was seen in 7 (26.9%) patients, in displaced bucket-handle tear of medial meniscus in 6 patients.
4. ACL injury was combined in was combined in 13 patients (50%), of which 10 cases were displaced bucket-handle tear medial meniscus.
In summary MR Imaging of the knee is a rapid, safe and highly accurate means that noninvasively assessed the status of bucket-handle tear of menisci and the asso ciated injuries of the knee.
